KPL Welcomes Northern Producer

KPL and the team at Kishorn Port, welcomed the Northern Producer into the Dry Dock, on Sunday 8th October. In the following days the dock gates were floated back in, sealed, and the dry dock pumped dry.  Preparation was then under way for the decommissioning, recycling, and any possible re-use of the 12,500 Gt, which was built in 1976, semi-submersible floating production vessel.

KPL and its partners, Leiths (Scotland) Ltd and Ferguson Transport & Shipping supported our client Noble Corporation and principal contractors Avantis in the casting, supply, fabrication, and logistics of the concrete batches for supply on site the docking blocks for the mighty Noble Intrepid. The jack up drilling rig, one of the largest in the world, entered our dry dock at the end of 2022 for a period of 10 months, before leaving in September 2023.

The Kishorn Port Directors Alasdair Ferguson, Colin Ortlepp and team had a wonderful time at OEUK Offshore Decommissioning Conference in St Andrews last week. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, discuss successes, challenges, and lessons to investigate how we can all collaborate to support effective decommissioning. Voyageur Spirit FPSO

Voyageur Spirit FPSO

The Voyageur Spirit was warm stacked in the dry dock from July 2020 to August 2022, where she was then moored outside the dock for a further 8 months. The FPSO was supported by KPL port and marine staff throughout this period.  The cylindrical Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) was built in 2008, with a dead weight of 45,145t, a length of 70m and a breadth of 65m.

Ninian Central

In the early 1970’s, 1.8 million tonnes of Torridonian Sandstone was blasted out of the mountainside to create the dry dock and Howard Doris Ltd started to build the Ninian Central oil platform in August 1975 for Chevron Petroleum (UK) Ltd. Over 3,000 people were employed to construct the concrete platform. They were locally called the “Kishorn Commandos” and lived in a camp on the site. Due to planning and travel constraints, the location was considered an island so all materials and employees were brought in by sea or air.

We are delighted to welcome Teekay’s Banff FPSO safely into Kishorn Port for temporary mooring. This is the port’s third significant project in 2020 following on from the downsizing and recycling of the casualty vessel, the MV Kaami, and the ongoing preservation of the Voyageur Spirit FPSO. The Banff FPSO is a floating production, storage and offloading vessel built in 1997. It has an overall length of 120 metres and a width of 42 metres. It will remain moored at Kishorn Port until a suitable location is selected by Teekay for the appropriate recycling of the unit.

Leiths (Scotland) Ltd supplied the concrete to Balfour Beatty for the manufacture of the “lego” building blocks for the new £12m Raasay Ferry Terminal. Early in 2008, Leith’s (Scotland) Ltd began the quarrying of Torridonian Sandstone at Kishorn in the vicinity of what was known as Area 6. An order was received from Balfour Beatty for the Raasay Ferry Terminal which involved the production of over 50,000 tonnes of various quarry products and the production of 7,000m³ of concrete for the fabrication of precast units which formed the main part of the terminal structure.

Return of Ocean GreatWhite

KPL took great pride in welcoming back to Kishorn Port, after almost four years, the Ocean GreatWhite. The drilling rig remains to this day, arguably one of the largest harsh-environment semi-submersible drilling rigs in the World. Diamond Offshore Drilling Internationals’ 60,700 tonne drilling rig arrived in Loch Kishorn in January 2019 for a 10 week period.

St Kilda World Heritage Site

Galliford Try were appointed as the main contractor for the redevelopment of the MOD facilities on the remote British Island, St Kilda. Galliford Try leased an area at Kishorn Port throughout 2017-2019 and used the Port as its main onshore operating base throughout the contract. The site was used to store and distribute the building supplies that were required for the project.
