Return of Ocean GreatWhite
KPL took great pride in welcoming back to Kishorn Port, after almost four years, the Ocean GreatWhite. The drilling rig remains to this day, arguably one of the largest harsh-environment semi-submersible drilling rigs in the World.
Diamond Offshore Drilling Internationals’ 60,700 tonne drilling rig arrived in Loch Kishorn in January 2019 for a 10 week period.
It’s a great testament to the welfare facilities and the infrastructure we have at the port and the expertise of our great people that we have facilitated repeat business, and this has allowed us to support projects such as this.
Kishorn Port provided a supply base for the rig over a two month period where it underwent preparations for an upcoming contract. With a draft of over 23 metres, the rig required a deep water location for anchoring in order to complete the task.
The Ocean GreatWhite took advantage of the deep sheltered waters of Loch Kishorn before she moved north to undertake a drilling programme for Siccar Point Energy in the harsh Atlantic environment West of Shetland.
Ferguson Transport & Shipping provided marine agency support while she was at anchor. This included the supply of support vessels, waste management, the co-ordination of cargo and personnel on/off the rig, stevedoring, road logistical support to name a few.
