We were delighted to welcome Maree Todd MSP, along with Cllr Liz Kraft, to Kishorn Port for a site visit. The delegation was given a tour of the port and dry dock, providing an opportunity to see firsthand the progress being made on the Phase 1a construction works as part of the port’s expansion project. We were delighted to welcome Scotland’s Deputy First Minister, Kate Forbes MSP, to Kishorn Port recently. The visit gave us a very welcome opportunity to show her at first hand the rapid progress that is being made on our £42.2million expansion project.Last month, the Deputy First Minister announced investment of up to £24m by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), enabling us to deliver this major development. We recently welcomed back the Bakkafrost vessel “Bakkanes” into Kishorn Port after her refit, where she will load out smolts in due course. Also evident in the photographs is the investment made by KPL with the new concrete abutment improvements, carried out in recent times on both the East and the West sides, encasing the older sheet piled walls. Future proofing further the dry dock infrastructure. The marine design engineers for the works were Wallace Stone and the specialist diving contractor work was carried out by Shearwater Marine Services Ltd.

KPL Director, Alasdair Ferguson welcomed members of the West Highland Chamber of Commerce for a very special visit last week. The Chamber are running a series of “Behind the Scenes” tours and Kishorn Port & Dry Dock were delighted to host one of these visits.   The group were treated to refreshments and then shown a company overview presentation by Alasdair in the Ocean Great White room. It’s great to see the dumpers and diggers arriving on site this week to begin construction of the new laydown area and the extension to the dry dock. We welcomed Alastair Nicolson, Area Manager for Lochaber, Skye and Wester Ross, and the HIE team, along with Helen Murchison, Chair of the local Lochcarron Community Council, who joined KPL Directors and management staff. Staff from R J McLeod (Contractors) Ltd also joined in celebrating the start of the project and the machines mobilising on site.

Construction work is starting next week on our £42.2million expansion project, which will prepare Kishorn Port to play a pivotal role in delivery of offshore wind projects in Scotland and elsewhere. This major development will see the size of the dry dock increased and land reclaimed to create capacity for the manufacture of concrete floating offshore wind foundations. It will enable us to provide full integration, with laydown, marshalling and assembly, in the long-term. KPL Head of Compliance & Safety, Steve Welham recently hosted a visit from Fatima Ferreira do Rosario, an Environmental Engineer with Petrobras, the national oil company of Brazil. As Petrobras is facing the challenge of decommissioning many FPSOs and semisubmersibles in the coming years, the visit was intended to provide background information on a well-established ship recycling facility with expertise and experience in this activity.Although Petrobras are looking to implement their own ship recycling facilities, given the challenges of bureaucracy and red tape in Brazil’s legislature and thus the timelines to do so, their back-up plan is to utilise only EU […]
